01 / A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Not just answers.
Better ways to reason.

AI for Mathematics brings machine learning, computational search, and formal reasoning into the mathematician’s toolkit. Their roles are complementary — not interchangeable.

01

Discover possibilities

Neural models can suggest conjectures, candidate constructions, or next proof steps. Search and computation help explore them. A promising pattern is a starting point, not a theorem.

02

Make reasoning precise

Proof assistants such as Lean express statements and arguments in a formal language. Libraries such as mathlib provide reusable definitions and theorems, so each proof need not start from zero.

03

Keep the human insight

Mathematicians choose meaningful questions, interpret discoveries, and check that formal statements capture the intended ideas. Faster exploration does not replace mathematical judgment.

NEURAL MODELS + SEARCH

What might be true?

An AI system proposes a conjecture or a candidate proof path. Computation can test examples and find counterexamples, but passing tests does not establish a universal statement.

Output: a candidate worth investigating.

Kernel checking establishes a formal proof relative to its definitions and axioms. It does not by itself confirm that the formalized statement is the one you intended.
